Big Night Out Winchester offers 12K and 22K night trail races through the countryside surrounding Winchester. Starting and finishing at Winchester Athletics Track, the routes head out of the city onto trails including the South Downs Way, Pilgrims Trail and Itchen Way.
Runners tackle hilly off road terrain by headtorch, with the longer 22K route climbing steadily to Cheesefoot Head before continuing over Fawley and towards Morestead. Both distances follow fully marked courses, with fluorescent directional markers guiding runners through the darkness and mandatory lighting required throughout the event. The combination of climbing, winter trails and night running adds an extra challenge to both distances.
The routes return towards Winchester via St Catherine's Hill and the Itchen Way before finishing back at the athletics track. An aid station, on course photographers and a finisher medal are included, with runners also able to choose tree planting instead of receiving a medal.
