The Barrathon is one of Scotland's most distinctive marathons, taking runners on a spectacular circuit of the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. Starting and finishing in Castlebay, the route showcases dramatic coastal scenery, quiet island roads and panoramic Atlantic views, making it as much a sightseeing experience as a sporting challenge.
The marathon follows a clockwise circuit around the island, passing beautiful beaches, rugged coastline, traditional crofting communities and some of Barra's most recognisable landmarks before returning to Castlebay. Although run entirely on roads, the rolling profile and exposed coastal sections provide a rewarding challenge throughout the 26.2 mile route.
Known for its warm island welcome and unique atmosphere, the Barrathon attracts runners from across the UK and beyond each summer. Combining stunning scenery, excellent organisation and an unforgettable destination, it remains one of the country's true bucket list marathons.
