Barnsley 10K Is Back!

Road racing returns to the streets of Barnsley this June...

Road racing will return to Barnsley this summer with a 10K featuring on the town's summer calendar. A race date of 30 June will surely mean sunshine all round and smiles will be aplenty too as the South Yorkshire town will once again be host to a flagship race.

The event is being delivered by Active in Barnsley, as a part of their #WhatsYourMove campaign and promises to be a momentous occasion with 1,000 places up for grabs.

Race action will begin in The Glass Works Square and take participants through Barnsley town centre, Wilthorpe and Redbrook before looping back around at the Claycliffe road area. Runners will then arrive back in The Glass Works Square for a sprint finish.

Councillor James Higginbottom said: "As the hometown of Olympians Dorothy Hyman and John Mayock, Barnsley has a rich history when it comes to running.

"The first Barnsley Marathon took place 50 years ago in 1974 and we still have a thriving running scene in the borough thanks to the many groups and clubs that organise events and activities for competition and leisure. We're thrilled to be adding our own with the Barnsley 10K in the town centre this summer.

“I'm sure it will be a fantastic day and hopefully it will become a permanent fixture in our events calendar. Whether you're taking on the race or coming along to cheer someone on, there is plenty to explore and enjoy across the town centre throughout the day with something for everyone."

Entries will open at 5pm on Friday 23 February, if you would like to know more visit the Barnsley Council website.
