Runners at Helensburgh 10K

Babcock 10K series places flying off the shelves

Organisers of the three-race late spring Babcock 10K series are reporting a significant increase in entries for 2020 from last year.

The series starts on Thursday 7 May with Babcock Helensburgh 10K (7.30pm) and a fast and largely flat course which is a single circuit taking in much of this delightful Victorian seaside resort. The roads are quiet and well-marshalled. The event offers a warm welcome to Olympians, serious club runners and recreational runners alike.

Race 2 is the following Thursday – 14 May. Babcock Dumbarton 10K starts close to the race headquarters in Dumbarton Academy and is largely traffic-free, with the first 7k on cycle paths. The route is a single lap and well-marshalled. Dumbarton has been welcoming runners of all abilities for over 30 years.

The series concludes on Sunday 31 May with Babcock Shettleston 10K and a 10.00am start on Glasgow Green. This course is flat and ideal for a PB effort. It will see the athletes leaving the Green and following the River Clyde before crossing the new Cuningar Bridge into the Clyde Gateway park at Shawfield and then returning to the Green for the finish.

Event organisers have already been busy and have confirmed that AG Barr will once again provide 6,000 bottles of Strathmore Water across the three races to keep the runners refreshed and rehydrated.

They have also secured the participation of Rio Olympic marathon runner Sonia Samuels from Sale who will run in Helensburgh against past winners Katie White from Garscube Harriers and Annabel Simpson from Fife AC. Simpson will be looking to break the record she set in 2019 in Helensburgh (34:48).

There are more than £6,000 in cash and Start Fitness vouchers on offer across the series and all series entrants will receive a specially designed More Mile technical T-shirt.

Finishers in all three races will be rewarded with a unique set of commemorative medals and a goody bag containing Start Fitness running accessories. Dozens of spot prizes will be on offer across the events.
