Autumn In Ambleside
Two fantastic trail races will make their return for 2023...
In 2022, Brathay Challenges (in conjunction with the Climbers Shop) hosted two new trail races - the Ambleside 25K & 50K, both which were such a great success they will be making a return for the autumn schedule in 2023.
Starting and finishing in Rothay Park, both races start together and follow some of the most scenic trails the Lake District has to offer. The autumn date of 17 September all but guarantees perfect trail running conditions (don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't turn out that way though!).
For the 25K, runners will head out through Little Langdale, Elterwater and Chapel Stile to rejoin the longer course in Langdale while the 50K will see runners enjoy an exhilarating loop made up of some iconic Lake District running including Loughrigg, Skelwith Bridge, Coniston, Little Langdale and Grasmere before returning to Ambleside.
Last year's 50K was won by Tim Hartley of Notts AC in 04:54:04 and the first woman was Angela Tarlton of Harwell Harriers in 06:22:06. Tim and Angela both received stunning trophies made by local supporters Miles Moore Ceramics.
The 25K was won by Richard Wilson of Kendal AAC in 02:18:53. First woman back and third overall in the 25K was Betty Bergstrand of Middlesbrough AC (Mandale) in 02:24:44.
Participants will enjoy running in one of the UK's UNSESCO World Heritage Sites and the fun doesn't stop at the finish line, as those taking part will also receive a finisher's memento as well as a delicious post-race meal!
