Aldermans Ascent is an 8.5K fell race held in the hills above Greenfield, with over 400 metres of ascent. The challenging route visits the iconic Pots and Pans monument before continuing to Shaw Rocks, the highest point on the course, then returns via Alderman's Hill with a demanding technical descent followed by a final climb before the run back to the finish.
Organised by CraggRunner under Fell Runners Association rules, the event requires competitors to be prepared for changing mountain conditions, with mandatory kit determined on the day. The course is fully marked and provides a classic test of fell running skill, endurance and descending ability.
The combination of steep climbs, fast technical sections and panoramic views across the South Pennines makes Aldermans Ascent a memorable mid summer fell race. Its classic route and varied terrain continue to make it a favourite among experienced fell runners.
