Alderley Edge 10K stays at the forefront

Four years in and the Alderley Edge 10K can surely consider itself to be one of the top events in the North West as close to 2000 runners turned out for the latest staging on Sunday (7 July). The 10k has been one of the main driving forces of Run North West’s recent success, underlined by their announcement of a new event for next summer, the Wilmslow Summer 10K.

Starting outside the grounds of Royal London, Sunday's runners enjoyed the rare and unique opportunity to run the Alderley Edge bypass passing through scenic Cheshire countryside, with participants attracted from across the UK. Live entertainment was provided along the route with runners encouraged to sing and dance their way to a personal best!

Charlie Hulson of Liverpool Harriers & AC proved to be too strong for the rest as he took first place in 30:27, with Salford Harriers’ Karl Darcy in second in 30:49, while Hulson’s teammate Danny Cliffe (31:35) completed the top three.

Cara Davies (Salford Harriers) was victorious in the women’s race, crossing the line in 36:04, followed by Ellesmere Port duo Joanna Marsden (37:39) and Sara Avery (38:36) in second and third respectively.

The event supported Millie’s Foundation, with over 150 runners in the 1-mile family run raising vital funds for the charity. With pop-up retail sales, sports massage thanks to Harris & Ross, a kids fun bus, face painting and a local fire engine there was plenty for the whole family to enjoy in the event village located on the grounds of Royal London.

Following the event Run North West who have recently opened their second retail store in Wilmslow announced a new date for the race in 2020 as well as launching a new event, the Wilmslow Summer 10K.

Next year’s Alderley Edge 10K will take place on Sunday 3 May, with the all new Wilmslow Summer 10K following the same route as the Wilmslow Festive 10K. Runners can take advantage of a special early bird price by entering both events for the special price of just £15 until midnight Sunday 14 July.
