The Aboyne Games Hill Race takes place as part of the Aboyne Highland Games in Aberdeenshire, one of Scotland's traditional Highland Games dating back to 1867. The 11K race is a popular feature of the games programme, attracting hill runners to Royal Deeside each summer.
The course begins with a lap of the games arena before heading onto estate tracks and forest trails around Craigendinnie. A sustained climb to the highest point is followed by a fast descent back towards Aboyne, with expansive views across Deeside providing a memorable hill racing experience.
The race is fully marshalled and finishes back inside the games arena in front of Highland Games spectators, creating a distinctive atmosphere. As part of one of Scotland's best known Highland Games, it combines competitive hill running with a traditional sporting celebration
