The popular Dandara 5K and family fun day will be returning to Aberdeen’s Hazlehead Park on Saturday 29 September – with a pirate theme.
The family friendly running festival will again feature races suitable for runners of all ages and abilities, including the main 5k, 1k and 2k children's races, and a 600m fun run.
Charlie House, Befriend a Child and AFC Community Trust are among the local charities taking part in the event, which supports the Friends of Hazlehead’s efforts to revitalise the much loved city park. In addition to being popular with families, Hazlehead is home to one of the Granite City’s two parkruns.
Runners will be under starter’s orders from 9:30am, and the event will continue into the afternoon with catering and entertainment available for all the family including face painting and a bouncy castle. There will be prizes for the first female and male finishers of the 5k, and a trophy will be presented to the best fancy-dressed runner.
Susan Crighton, director of fundraising for local children’s charity Charlie House, said: “Great running events are a staple in our fundraising calendar and the Dandara 5K is a wonderful way for the entire family to get involved. Runners really put the time and effort into training for these events so fundraising alongside is also a great driver to get to the finish line!”
Dandara’s sales director in Aberdeen, Peter Best, said: “The Dandara 5k is a brilliant day out for the whole family. It’s a real community event, with charity teams joining the many fun-runners and club runners taking part to raise funds for their own causes, while also supporting the Friends of Hazlehead.”
Runners have until next Thursday, 27 September to enter online. Cash-only entries will also be taken on the day.
