20 Barriers Race

The 20 Barriers Race is a classic 5 Mile fell race based at Carnforth High School in Lancashire. Organised under Fell Runners Association rules, the event follows a scenic countryside route that has become a long established favourite in the North West fell running calendar while raising funds for local youth charities.

The anti clockwise course follows a mixture of field paths, woodland trails, canal towpaths and open countryside south of Carnforth. Around twenty stiles and traditional field boundaries give the race its name, while short climbs, runnable trails and sections through the old Lundsfield quarry create a varied and enjoyable off road challenge.

The event is fully marshalled and open to runners aged 16 and over, with entry available on the day. Combining varied terrain, friendly organisation and a distinctive route that celebrates the Lancashire countryside, the 20 Barriers Race continues to be a popular summer fixture for fell and trail runners.
