Worthing's Worth Considering
Chilling on the beach post-race is all part of the Worthing 10K...
There are 100 days to go to the Worthing 10K – one of the largest mass participation running events on the South Coast – with this year's Run Base Events race scheduled for Sunday 9 June.
If you are looking for a flat, fast, PB-friendly race in the early summer months the Worthing 10K should tick all the boxes. The race carries an England Athletics licence and a certificate of course accuracy – and what a course it is, too!
With a total elevation gain of 18 metres, the route starts on Worthing's Marine Parade, 500m west of Worthing Pier. Runners head west past Marine Gardens to Marine Crescent at Goring-by-Sea beach. On we go through parkland to the 5K turn at Goring Greensward before retracing our steps to the finish near Worthing Lido.
There were 1,331 finishers in just over two hours last year. Up front, there was a narrow victory for Ross Skelton (HY Runners, 31:32) in the men's race and a more comfortable win for Cassie Thorp (City of Portsmouth AC, 35:47) in the women's category.
Almost 100 runners celebrated sub-40-minute times and the hour was beaten by around 900. The PB count was equally impressive as many runners ran faster than ever before at this popular distance.
Race day starts at 9:00am with a burst of energy in the Junior Mile (pictured below) and the Worthing 10K is off at 09:30am. Entries are available at the reduced fee of £25/£27 for the 10K open to entrants who are aged 15 and over on race day. The Junior Mile is open to entrants aged 5-17 with a fee of £7/£8 according to club status.
Whether you’re a first-timer, running for charity, or an experienced club runner you’ll enjoy a fantastic morning of running by the seaside. All participants receive a fantastic race medal, free runner photography, and finish-line goodies. Cooling off on the beach (see photo above) is also free!
