The Worsley Woods 5 Mile Trail Race is a scenic mixed terrain event organised by Swinton Running Club. The one lap course explores Worsley Woods and the surrounding conservation area, passing Old Warke Dam and following sections close to the historic Bridgewater Canal.
Runners tackle a mixture of well maintained trails, woodland paths and surfaced sections, creating a varied but relatively quick course through one of Salford's largest conservation areas. Conditions underfoot can change with the weather, with muddy sections, exposed tree roots and other natural trail features adding to the challenge. Road running shoes can be suitable in dry conditions, while trail shoes may be preferable following periods of wet weather.
The race is well marshalled and chip timed, with a friendly atmosphere that makes it suitable for experienced trail runners and those looking to try this type of racing. A bespoke medal is awarded to finishers, with a drinks station at the finish and race facilities based close to the course at Beesley Green Community Centre.
