The Winter Downs 100 is a challenging 100 mile trail ultramarathon organised by Centurion Running, starting at Amberley Museum in West Sussex and finishing at Juniper Hall near Box Hill in Surrey. This continuous winter endurance event takes runners across southern England on a demanding point to point journey through the South Downs and North Downs.
The route follows the South Downs Way, Wayfarers Walk, St Swithuns Way and North Downs Way, covering approximately 160K with 3,050 metres of elevation gain. Around 84% of the course is on trails, with rolling hills, exposed sections and prolonged periods of darkness. Runners must navigate using established trail waymarkers and GPX files, making preparation and self sufficiency essential.
With a 35 hour cut off, the event provides three aid stations serving hot meals and offering access to drop bags, alongside medical support and live GPS tracking. Mandatory winter equipment and strict checkpoint cut offs add to the challenge, while successful finishers receive a commemorative buckle.
