The West District Cross Country Championships bring together athletes from clubs, schools and universities across western Scotland for a day of competitive distance running. Held at Kirkland Park in Strathaven, the championships form an important fixture in the Scottish cross country season, with individual and team competition across a range of age groups.
Races cover approximate distances of 3K to 9K, with separate categories for Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, senior and masters athletes. The parkland setting provides a traditional cross country challenge, where runners must manage their pace and maintain momentum over natural terrain while competing against others in their age category.
The championships are open to eligible athletes representing their first claim Scottish club or an affiliated school or university club, with current Scottish Athletics membership required. Individual and team performances are recognised through championship awards, while additional finishing position badges celebrate leading junior athletes.
