The Water of Leith Half is a point to point Half Marathon following the Water of Leith through Edinburgh from Balerno to Leith. Starting near the edge of the Pentland Hills, the route traces the river towards the city and finishes at Coalhill in Leith.
Runners cover 13.1 miles on a predominantly off road route using the paths alongside the Water of Leith, with key road crossings marshalled along the way. The race uses a handicap format, with runners starting in waves according to their expected finish times and the slower groups setting off first.
The field is deliberately kept small to reduce the impact on the pathways and surrounding environment. Chip timing, a finishers medal and bag drop are provided, while the event also supports the Water of Leith Conservation Trust and its work protecting the river, wildlife and surrounding natural environment.
