The BC Marathon is a circular trail marathon starting and finishing in the historic market town of Bishop's Castle. The route explores the Shropshire Hills, linking established trails, nature reserves and local footpaths through an area known for its extensive countryside views.
Runners follow sections of the Shropshire Way through the Nipstone and Stiperstones National Nature Reserves before taking on the Long Mynd. The mixed terrain includes trails, footpaths and demanding hill sections, with climbs leading to panoramic views before the route turns back towards Bishop's Castle.
This is a navigational marathon, adding route finding to the physical challenge of completing the distance across hilly terrain. Large sections follow established trails, while the combination of varied surfaces, significant climbs and self navigation makes the event particularly suited to runners looking for an adventurous trail marathon.
