The FT Nikkei UK Ekiden is a 112K team relay inspired by Japan's long established Ekiden racing tradition. Teams of 10 runners complete consecutive stages, passing a tasuki sash between teammates as they follow a route from Windsor along the Thames Path before returning to the finish.
Bringing together corporate, university and community teams, the event celebrates teamwork, endurance and the cultural heritage of Ekiden racing. Each stage varies in distance, requiring teams to balance pace, strategy and squad composition across the full relay.
Starting and finishing at Brocas Field in Windsor, the route follows sections of the Thames Path through the surrounding riverside landscape. The combination of team competition, long distance relay running and Japanese sporting tradition makes the UK Ekiden one of the most distinctive relay events on the British running calendar.
