The Sufferings is a challenging trail running event based at Washington Village Hall in West Sussex, with routes exploring the tracks around Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring. The event takes runners into the South Downs for a demanding test of endurance across a distinctly hilly landscape.
Runners can choose from a 39 mile ultra, marathon or half marathon, with the course built around a tough lap featuring approximately 2,126ft of ascent and descent. The combination of sustained climbing, steep descents and exposed South Downs trails makes The Sufferings particularly suited to runners looking for a demanding trail race with significant elevation.
The event is organised by Sussex Trail Events with support from the Wiston Estate and National Trust. All distances start from Washington Village Hall and finishers receive a medal, with a generous time limit providing marathon and ultra runners with plenty of opportunity to complete the challenging course.
