The Lap is a 47 mile trail ultra that completes a full circuit of Lake Windermere through the heart of the Lake District. Starting and finishing near the lakeshore at Low Cunsey Farm, the route explores the surrounding fells, woodland and countryside while taking in extensive views across England's largest lake.
Runners cover 47 miles with approximately 2,500m of ascent on predominantly singletrack and unmanicured trails, alongside boardwalk, fire roads, steeper fell paths and occasional short sections of quiet country road. The course is extensively waymarked, allowing runners to concentrate on the terrain and distance without the navigation demands often associated with Lake District ultras.
The event is open to runners and walkers, with 24 hours available to complete the circuit. Six food and drink stations, live GPS tracking and a halfway shoe drop provide support around the route, making The Lap an accessible step into longer distance ultra running while retaining the challenge and scenery of the Lake District trails.
