The Drop Birmingham is a navigation challenge organised by Organic Adventure Ltd and based at Blackroot Bistro in Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield. Rather than following a marked course, participants are transported by bus to an undisclosed location before being challenged to find their own way back to the event centre entirely on foot.
Three distances are available. The 6 mile challenge is reserved for runners unfamiliar with the local area, while the 10 mile and original 15 mile challenges are open to those seeking a greater test of navigation, decision making and endurance. Distances are measured as the crow flies, meaning the actual distance travelled is likely to be considerably longer depending on the route chosen.
Before deployment, participants surrender electronic devices, watches and navigation aids, receiving only an emergency bag to carry throughout the challenge. Once released, there are no route markers, GPS devices or directional assistance, placing complete responsibility for navigation on each participant. Optional live GPS tracking is available for spectators and event safety, with trackers provided by the organiser.
Combining trail running, navigation and problem solving, The Drop Birmingham offers a distinctive outdoor challenge where success depends not only on physical endurance but also on remaining calm, making sound decisions and finding your own way back.
