The Deep North Run is an unofficial half marathon starting at Tynemouth Priory and finishing in Ouseburn, Newcastle. The route follows the coastline before joining the River Tyne, offering a largely point to point course that transitions from coastal paths into urban riverside trails.
The event is designed as a relaxed, community focused run with no competitive pressure. Instead of traditional race nutrition, runners are supported with doughnuts and coffee at aid points along the way, with further coffee and a doughnut waiting at the finish. Live tracking and timing are provided via an app so all participants receive an official time.
The finish line in Ouseburn includes a social gathering space, reinforcing the event’s emphasis on community and shared experience rather than elite competition.
