The Dartmoor Beast is a challenging trail event organised by Hospiscare, offering 20-mile and 14-mile routes through the heart of Dartmoor National Park.
Both races start and finish at Pavilion in the Park in Okehampton before heading onto rugged moorland. The 20-mile Beast crosses five granite tors and climbs around 3,399ft, including a steep ascent to High Willhays, the highest point in southern England. The 14-mile Wee Beastie tackles four tors with around 2,224ft of climbing.
Expect open moorland, woodland and riverside trails, river crossings, exposed rock and boggy ground, with steep and potentially slippery ascents and descents. The races are chip timed and supported by marshals, aid stations and medical teams, although runners must also navigate using the supplied GPX route. Finishers receive a medal and traditional Devon cream tea, with proceeds supporting Hospiscare.
