The Sunshine Run returns to Newcastle Quayside for its 23rd year, raising funds to support children with disabilities across the North East. Organised by The Sunshine Fund, the event brings together runners, walkers, schools, community groups and local businesses for an evening of fundraising and participation in the heart of the city.
The headline 5K starts beside the Millennium Bridge and follows a flat, fast out and back route towards Newcastle Business Park before returning to a finish framed by Newcastle's iconic bridges. Popular with both club runners and first time participants, the course offers excellent PB potential while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for runners of all abilities.
New for 2026 is the Sunshine Mile, a family friendly one mile route around Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides. Crossing both the Swing Bridge and Millennium Bridge, the event is designed to encourage schools and younger participants to get involved while enjoying some of the city's most recognisable waterfront landmarks.
With chip timing, a vibrant event atmosphere and opportunities for individuals, families and corporate teams to take part, the Sunshine Run continues to be one of the North East's best loved charity running events.
