Summer Extravaganza is a popular trail running event held along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Kirkstall, just outside Leeds city centre. The flat, well maintained towpath provides a scenic waterside route, with a choice of seven distances and a course suited to runners of different abilities.
The event includes 5K, 10K, 10 mile, Half Marathon, 20 mile, Marathon and Ultra Marathon races. Longer distances use repeated sections of the canal course, with the marathon covering two half marathon laps and the ultra adding a further 10K. The flat terrain and generous six and a half hour cut off make the event suitable for first time distance runners, personal best attempts and endurance training.
Feed stations approximately every three miles provide refreshments, with marshals supporting runners along the course. Finishers receive a bespoke medal, cakes and a BBQ roll, with vegetarian and gluten free options available. The combination of canal trail running, varied race distances and post race refreshments makes Summer Extravaganza a distinctive fixture in the Leeds running calendar.
