The Salmon Run is a 43 mile trail ultra and team relay following the River Exe upstream from Exmouth to Dulverton. Inspired by the journey of Atlantic salmon returning to their spawning grounds, the event follows the river from the coast towards Exmoor and combines a long distance challenge with a distinctive conservation theme.

Ultra runners complete the full point to point route, which largely follows the Exe Valley Way and features around 1,050 metres of ascent. The course travels through riverside landscapes and communities along the Exe before reaching the Green in Dulverton, with a 12 hour cut off for the 43 mile distance.

The relay follows the same overall trail route, allowing teams to tackle shorter sections and pass a symbolic salmon baton as they progress upstream. The event highlights the challenges faced by Atlantic salmon and the importance of the River Exe ecosystem, creating a trail running experience closely connected to the landscape and wildlife along the route.
