Running Up That Road
We’re on the road this weekend (9-10 June). No, not a reference to Jack Kerouac’s famous novel; instead we turn our attention to tarmac with these multiple choice events.
For anyone in a festival mood there is the Market Harborough Carnival of Running on Saturday and this year there are four races to choose from. There is a 1-mile fun run, a 5k (new), 10k and a half marathon. The event is held in conjunction with the Carnival so expect a lively atmosphere and plenty to see and listen to, i.e. live music. The start and finish are in different locations albeit half a mile apart, and there are a few little hills and four feed/water stations along the route.
Another event with a virtual guarantee of a PB is Heyford Park Airbase Races in Oxfordshire. The 5k, 10k, half marathon and junior races take place on the former American airbase’s runway and taxiway. There is a 9.30am start for the juniors followed by the wheelchair race at 9.55am then 10am for the other distances. Water stations every 5k and at the finish but no feed stations so carry any jelly babies/gels with you. All finishers will receive a bespoke medal as a souvenir of the event.
Back for the third consecutive year is the Melton Mowbray Road2Recovery Half Marathon along with a 10k, 5kand a 1-mile fun run. These races are on undulating country lanes in picturesque Leicestershire countryside and there are goody bags for all finishers with a medal and chocolate for every child. This is a Claire Lomas MBE fundraising event with 100% profits going to the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.
