Lizzie Blitzes Snetterton
Run Snetterton 10K and 5K attracts 500 for midweek mayhem...
There was an excellent entry of almost 500 runners for the Run Snetterton 10K and 5K on Wednesday 2 August 2023 at one of the UK's premier motor racing circuits. Snetterton was built as an RAF airfield and the network of runways and service roads was fashioned into a race track for members of the Aston Martin Owner's Club in 1951.
The track makes a fast and exciting venue for road running and Good Running Events was behind this midweek opportunity to burn shoe rubber in pursuit of personal bests on the manicured tarmac that normally sees high-octane, motorised thrills on the iconic surface.
The event was made possible by the support of the host venue management team MotorSport Vision - MSV and race sponsors UPP – who appropriately provide high-speed internet connections for the information superhighway.
The most popular distance was the 10K with just under 300 finishers in 1:24:04. Only the top three men stayed in front of the flying under-17 Lizzie Wellsted (Colchester Harriers, 34:47) – pictured above wearing bib #94.
Wellsted is the Essex and South of England XC champion and the fastest 10K runner in the UK in her age group this year, by almost two minutes. The women's 10K podium was completed by Katie King (St Edmund Pacers, 37:35) and Charlotte East (Cambridge & Coleridge, 38:31).
The three men who were able to finish ahead of Wellsted were Martyn Bath (City of Norwich, 33:49 PB), M45 Kevin Holland (Wymondham AC, 34:13) and David Sparshott (City of Norwich AC, 34:25) as 132 beat the 50-minute barrier for a better than 5min/km pace.
Two women were among the 24 athletes inside 20 minutes for the supporting 5K race. Victoria Coe (Cambridge & Coleridge AC, 19:04) topped the rostrum from her club mate Olivia Baker (19:16) and Olivia Ord (Ryston Runners, 20:38).
The pacesetters at the front were Wymondham AC members Cameron Messenger (16:30) and M40 Charlie Stringer 16:36) plus Tiptree Road Runner's Aaron Graves (16:43).
