Run Gateshead Hot Chocolate brings three race distances to Derwenthaugh Country Park in Swalwell, Gateshead. Organised by Run Nation, the event combines a 10K, 5K and junior 3K, with the distinctive attraction of hot chocolate for every finisher, provided by Blaydon Rugby Club.
The races start and finish near Swalwell Visitor Centre, following traffic free paths and tracks through the country park. The predominantly flat 10K completes two laps of the park, while the 5K follows a single lap. Both distances combine paved footpaths with natural tracks, creating a multi terrain running experience. The junior 3K follows a separate, flat out and back route along the main Derwent Walk path.
All three distances are chip timed, with kilometre markers, marshals and first aid support. Water is provided at the finish, with an additional station at 5K for the longer race. Finishers receive a medal, while refreshments and other event facilities are available at nearby Blaydon Rugby Club.
