The Phoenix Running Chocothon is a seven hour timed running challenge beside the River Thames in Walton on Thames. Rather than committing to a fixed distance in advance, runners complete as many or as few laps as they choose, with recognised distances ranging from 5K and 10K through Half Marathon and Marathon to ultra distance.
The event uses a flat 5.3K out and back course along the riverside towpath, with virtually no elevation gain or loss. Runners can stop after a single lap or continue accumulating laps throughout the seven hour period, making the format suitable for those targeting a particular distance as well as runners looking to see how far they can travel within the available time.
The Chocothon has a distinctive chocolate theme, with the aid station stocked with chocolate alongside the usual runner refreshments. Flexible start times within a one hour window add to the relaxed format, while participants completing at least one lap qualify as finishers and can receive the event's themed finisher medal.
