Cheshire 5k offers chance of a late summer PB
With course records of 13:55 and 16:46 (set respectively by Jonny Mellor in 2014 and Tessa McCormick the following year), it's no surprise the Ellesmere Port RC 5K is regarded as one of the quickest events in the north.
Formerly known as the Capenhurst 5K, the race is organised by Ellesmere Pork RC and will celebrate its 16th year on Wednesday 15 August. The fast and flat one lap course takes runners around the village of Capenhurst and, with a fast downhill finish, is renowned for the number of PBs it records each year.
While many will be seeking a late summer PB, race director Ian Cooper told runABC North that all types of runners are welcome: “We cater for everyone whether they aiming for a PB or just want to get round the course, they will all be cheered on by our friendly marshals.
“We hand out goodybags at the end and have prizes for the top three male, female winners and vet categories too and also an extra £100 for any male or female breaking the course record.”
This small, friendly club organised race still has around 90 entries available. With a 7.15pm kick-off, it is also ideal for a post-work event. Registration is priced as just £12, or £10 for affiliated runners.
