The Oktoberfest Challenge is an eight hour running and walking event at Samphire Hoe on the Kent coast. Participants complete repeated 3.28 mile loops and can choose how far they want to travel within the time available, with just one completed lap required to record a finish and longer distances possible throughout the day.
The largely flat course uses mainly concrete and gravel paths around the nature reserve, making road shoes suitable for most conditions. Runners return to the event base at the end of every lap, allowing them to access refreshments regularly before deciding whether to continue. Only complete laps count towards each participant's final distance.
An Oktoberfest theme gives the challenge a relaxed and sociable character, with German inspired food joining the usual selection at the aid station. Finishers receive a themed medal and post run treats, while the flexible format allows participants to target anything from a short run to marathon and ultra distances.
