Discover the beauty and history of Northamptonshire at Shires and Spires, a popular multi-distance running event organised by Go Beyond Events. Starting and finishing in the historic village of Naseby, the event offers five distances ranging from 10K to a challenging 35-mile ultra, welcoming everyone from runners tackling their first countryside race to experienced endurance athletes seeking a longer adventure.

The routes explore the picturesque Northamptonshire countryside, taking runners along quiet country roads, trails and rural paths through rolling landscapes and charming villages. Longer distances pass historic landmarks including Holdenby House, Althorp House and Cottesbrooke Hall, while the undulating terrain provides a mixture of challenging climbs, rewarding descents and flatter stretches. The routes alternate between clockwise and anticlockwise each year, offering a different perspective on the surrounding countryside.

With its friendly atmosphere, experienced event team and choice of distances, Shires and Spires offers a rewarding challenge for runners of varying abilities. Well-stocked checkpoints provide refreshments and encouragement along the longer routes, while GPS tracking and navigation support help participants find their way through the countryside. Whether tackling the 10K, stepping up to a longer distance or taking on the full ultra, runners can look forward to a memorable experience combining beautiful scenery, history and a real sense of achievement.
