The Midsummer Mortimer Trail explores the landscapes of the historic Marches, offering runners a choice of the Croft Half or the Kington Ultra. Following trails, tracks, fields and quiet rural roads, the event showcases the hills, forests and valleys that once formed part of the powerful Mortimer family's medieval territory.
The Kington Ultra covers approximately 30 miles from Kington to Ludlow, crossing a succession of ridges and valleys while passing landmarks including Wapley Hill, Croft Ambrey, Orleton Common, the High Vinnals and Mary Knoll Valley. The Croft Half follows a shorter section of the route, starting in Aymestrey before finishing at the same destination in Ludlow.
Both distances combine challenging climbs with rewarding countryside scenery, making them suitable for runners looking to step up to longer trail events as well as experienced ultra athletes. Finishing beneath the walls of Ludlow's historic castle ruins provides a memorable conclusion to a day of trail running through the English borderlands.
