The Kingfisher Challenge is a flexible six hour running event set within Coombe Abbey Park on the outskirts of Coventry. Participants can run, hike or walk as many laps as they choose, with distances ranging from shorter 5K and 10K challenges through to Half Marathon, Marathon and Ultra distances.
Runners follow a relatively flat 3.3 mile lap through the park, with the majority of the mixed terrain course using hard surfaced stone pathways beneath extensive tree cover. A section across open grassland adds variety and can become muddy following wet weather. Four laps cover approximately a Half Marathon, while eight laps take runners to around Marathon distance.
The six hour format allows participants to decide how far they want to travel on the day, with another lap permitted as long as it is started before the time limit expires. Finishers can receive an event medal or choose a tree planting token instead, while the repeated lap format creates a sociable setting for runners taking on different challenges.
