The Hurtwood 50K is a trail ultramarathon organised by Freedom Racing, starting and finishing in Dorking and exploring the wooded hills of Surrey. Following the Greensand Way, the route takes runners through forest trails, ridgelines and valleys in one of the area's best known landscapes.
The 50K course follows an out and back route with a five mile loop at its western end, crossing Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Pitch Hill. With approximately 4,192 feet of ascent, runners face a mixture of gradual climbs, steep hills and technical woodland trails. Clear route markings and four aid stations provide support throughout the challenge.
The event welcomes experienced distance runners as well as prepared first time ultramarathon participants, with a generous ten hour completion window. Electronic timing, live leaderboards and finisher medals add to the experience, while the rolling start allows participants to begin earlier and make the most of the available daylight.
