Highland Fling Ultramarathon is an established 53 mile point-to-point race along Scotland's West Highland Way, organised by John Duncan and the Highland Fling Race team. Starting in Milngavie, near Glasgow, the event finishes in the Highland village of Tyndrum after a demanding journey through Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
The route heads north through the countryside towards Drymen and Balmaha before following the eastern shore of Loch Lomond. Runners tackle increasingly rugged trails through Rowardennan, Inversnaid and Beinglas before continuing through Glen Falloch and Crianlarich towards Tyndrum. Approximately 90% of the course is off-road, with rocky paths, woodland trails and sustained climbs contributing to around 2,300 metres of ascent.
Live chip timing and a checkpoint drop bag system support runners throughout the race, with mandatory safety equipment required. External support and pacers are prohibited, while luggage transport is provided between the start and finish. The event concludes with a distinctive red carpet finish, homemade refreshments, showers and a celebratory gathering in Tyndrum.
