Hitchin 5K

The Hitchin Town Centre 5K is a popular road race through the heart of the historic Hertfordshire market town. Starting on Hitchin High Street, the event takes runners through a varied town centre setting, passing the historic market square, riverside paths and distinctive steel statues near Cooper's Yard while showcasing some of Hitchin's best known local landmarks.

Runners complete two 2.5K laps on a fast and predominantly flat course, crossing the river before heading past Windmill Hill, around Payne's Park and back towards the heart of town. The route is fully marked and marshalled, making it straightforward to follow, while chip timing provides accurate results. The course suits runners chasing a quick 5K as well as those taking on the distance as a personal challenge.

The compact two lap format creates plenty of opportunities for spectators to follow the action and support runners as they make their way around the town centre. Medals are awarded to every finisher, with trophies for the leading male and female runners and additional age category prizes, adding a competitive element to the welcoming community atmosphere.
