Thousands set to join world class athletes in Stirling

Elite and recreational runners alike will descend on historic Stirling on Saturday 12 January for Great Run's newest Scottish event. The Simplyhealth Great Castle Run is the big 'first-foot' race that takes the place of the old Edinburgh Great Winter Run and is part of an exciting double bill with the Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry .

Organisers are reporting healthy entry numbers following the race launch in October with interest in both running the Simplyhealth Great Castle Run, a testing 7k multi-terrain course, and watching top international race action in the Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry.

The Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry, previously staged in Edinburgh, will be held in Stirling for the first time in 2019. Set against the impressive backdrop of Stirling Castle, the event will feature some of the world’s best athletes battling it out across challenging terrain. World class runners from Great Britain & Northern Ireland will take on Team Europe and Team USA over a variety of distances, the event is completely free to spectate and will be shown live on BBC Sport from 13:15 to 15:15.

The Simplyhealth Great Castle Run follows a scenic course around a challenging route past King’s Knot, Beheading Stone, Castle Canons, Heritage Trail Wood Carvings and Stirling Castle before crossing the finish line in Kings Park. The race has an interesting format with five waves going off at 30 minute intervals from 9.30am.
