The Golden Gates Gallop is a long established 5 mile mixed terrain race through the grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park in Derbyshire. Starting beneath the distinctive Golden Gates, the event explores the historic parkland before finishing at Elvaston Cricket Club, where the race village forms the centre of the day's activities.
Runners follow a mostly flat, traffic free two lap course using the perimeter paths and tracks around Elvaston Castle. The route includes an out and back along the well known Gallops, adding some gentle changes in elevation to an otherwise fast course. A water station is positioned around the halfway point, while the accompanying 2 mile family fun run follows a shorter single lap through the castle grounds.
First held in 1986, the Golden Gates Gallop has become a longstanding fixture in the local running calendar and supports Blood Cancer UK. Finishers receive a medal and goody bag, with refreshments, local stalls and a finishers village adding to the atmosphere around the event base.
