Held annually on New Year's Day, the race became famous when featuring in the opening chapter of Richard Askwith's 'Feet in the Clouds'. It's always a fun race, with a typically festive atmosphere, fell runner excuses (hangovers, niggles etc) and smiles. The race is mostly flagged and on established trails with prepared surfaces. There is, however, one steep and technical descent, littered with slippery tree roots and tussocks. Please only turn up to race in appropriate fell running footwear. From the foot of that descent is a fast, undulating 1.5 miles to the finish.
