NYD Hair of the Dog Dash Virtual Run Medal

Run in the New Year with virtual Hair of the Dog Dash

Event changed to a virtual run following the increased tiers

Say goodbye (and good riddance!) to the old year and start the new one with the Hair of the Dog Dash – Virtual Run. This New Year’s Day event has a choice of two distances: 5K and 10K and the first medal of 2021 to look forward to.

This is one of two virtual runs organised by DB Max Sports Timing & Events, the other iRun January, a Virtual Mileage Challenge taking place throughout the month. The new NYD Hair of the Dog Dash was ready to make its debut at Chippenham on a scenic, single lap course of 7.7 miles that would have been an ideal introduction to trail running for beginners as well as a good race for the more experienced runner.

All the necessary measures were in place for this Covid-secure event that could act as a hangover cure if one had overindulged the night before. Unfortunately, a surge in cases of the new Covid variant has resulted in a change to the tier system. Many more areas have been placed into tiers 3 and 4.

The organisers decided to switch to a virtual format where participants run 5K or 10K as part of a virtual crowd and on a course of their own choosing. There is the option to join the virtual line up at the Facebook Live race start if so desired. They print off their bib number, complete their run then submit their finish time and a link to their course via Strava or Garmin. The online results table will be updated during the day.
