The Doone Run is a historic 10 mile trail race organised by Ilfracombe Running Club in the dramatic surroundings of Exmoor National Park. Established in 1983, the event explores the countryside around Lynmouth, taking runners through some of North Devon's most distinctive coastal and wooded landscapes.
Runners face a challenging and varied course using coastal paths, riverside trails, woodland tracks and sections of road. The route takes in scenery from Watersmeet to the Valley of the Rocks, with changing terrain and elevation providing a demanding test throughout the 10 miles. The course is fully marshalled and chip timed, with a cut off point at approximately halfway to ensure runners can complete the route safely.
Held under a Trail Running Association permit, the Doone Run combines a tough trail challenge with the atmosphere of a long established local race. The field is limited to 200 runners, medals are awarded to finishers and prizes recognise overall and age category performances, including the traditional Doone Run trophies for the leading male and female runners.
