The Darkwood Demon is a challenging 6 mile trail race through the Colne Valley near Huddersfield, exploring a varied route of towpaths, bridleways, moorland, boggy ground, woodland and short sections of road.
Runners face around 990ft of ascent on a course that is approximately 85% trail, with a demanding climb up Slaithwaite Moor towards the top of Cupwith. From the high point, the route turns downhill for a faster descent towards the finish, with extensive views across the surrounding West Yorkshire landscape along the way.
Organised by Slaithwaite Striders, the Darkwood Demon is chip timed with a fully marshalled and waymarked course, so no navigation is required. Trail shoes are strongly recommended for the mixed off road terrain, with the finish at Zapato Brewery providing a fitting place for post race refreshments.
