The South Downs Way 50 is a 50 mile point to point ultra marathon organised by Centurion Running, taking place along the South Downs Way National Trail from Worthing to Eastbourne.
The route follows the chalk ridge of the South Downs, offering a mix of rolling hills, long climbs and fast runnable sections. Runners pass through open countryside with wide views across the coast and surrounding landscape, creating a scenic but demanding course.
The terrain varies throughout, including chalk trails, woodland tracks, grass, dirt paths and occasional tarmac. Underfoot conditions can be uneven in places, with loose stones and exposed sections adding to the challenge.
This is a fully supported event with multiple aid stations, a marked route and medical support. Runners must complete the course within a 13 hour cut off, with additional checkpoints along the way.
Part of the Centurion Running 50 mile series, the event is popular with experienced ultra runners as well as those stepping up to the distance for the first time.
A classic UK ultra that combines distance, elevation and iconic scenery in one of the country’s most recognised trail running routes.
