Carl Moulton And Sophie Goodfellow

Carl Moulton & Sophie Goodfellow NSRRA Champions

Victory for Carl Moulton and a second place for Sophie Goodfellow at Sunday’s (4 November) Flying Fox 10 rounded off a successful North Staffordshire Road Runners Association (NSRRA) season. Carl and Sophie's performances resulted in them becoming 2018 champions.

The pair have been in impressive form this year, notching up wins at the South Cheshire 10K, Uttoxeter Half Marathon, Clayton 10K, Westbridge 5, Ipstones 5, Meerbrook 15K, Congleton Half Marathon and the Werrington 10K. The Flying Fox 10 was the last race in the NSRRA programme and competition was fierce for those all-important points.

Over 250 runners waited for the 10.30am start of the Flying Fox 10, organised by Stone MM. They headed off from All Saints First School, Standon and followed an undulating course on quiet country lanes in ideal conditions.

Carl Moulton of Boalloy RC was first across the line in 56.17 followed by Craig Pilsbury in 58:03 and Matthew Woodman of Stafford Harriers in 58:37.

Sarah Mackness won the women’s race in 1:05:42. Sophie Goodfellow of Newcastle (Staffs) AC took second place in 1:08:26, securing her the NSRRA Ladies Champion title along with Staffordshire 10 Mile title. Anna Hollingworth of Stone MM was third in 1:08:46.

NSRRA was set up in July 1974 by Don Shelley to promote road running in the area and uses a system where runners are split into groups according to ability and there are age categories too. There are 20 races in the series with points awarded depending upon individual performance and the best 12 count towards the league competition.

Congratulations to Carl and Sophie.
