The race route takes in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark describes as “a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past” The area has many distinctive geology, landscape and flora features, significant archaeology and supports important biodiversity in a range of key habitats.
The event will start centre-stage in the main show ring, before heading up a steep gravel track past Pennypie House (on the Pennine Journey trail) and onto the moors. From the top of the climb, you will cross the trail heading for Slaley Forest, where you will meander up and down some of the forest’s undulating tracks before popping back out onto the moors. Finally, you pick up The Carriers’ Way that will take you back to Blanchland.
