The race starts in the centre of this beautiful Alpinesque village - the Gateway to Snowdonia - and winds its way up the hill behind St Mary’s Church towards Llyn Elsi. Part-way up the hill the 5k route branches off, missing the lake section, and descends through the woods to the finish. The 10k and half marathon routes take different paths to reach the lake, and both do an almost complete lap of it before descending towards the finish at the Waterloo Hotel and Lodge. Just before the finish, the half marathon route links back to rejoin the hill for a second lap.
