Bates Green Gallop is a six hour trail running event at Bates Green Farm near Arlington in East Sussex. The course follows repeated 3.6 mile loops through the countryside surrounding the home of the Arlington Bluebell Walk, passing through woodland and fields and crossing the River Cuckmere.
Runners complete as many laps as they choose within the six hour period, allowing distances from around 10 miles and half marathon through to ultra distance. Participants can run solo or form relay teams of two to four runners. The course is relatively flat overall but provides a genuine trail challenge across grass, mud, woodland, concrete and loose chippings, with uneven ground, roots and a couple of climbs towards the end of each lap.
A well stocked aid station is available at the end of every loop, where runners can refuel, take a break and decide whether to continue. There is no requirement to remain on the course throughout the full six hours, creating a flexible and friendly format for runners testing a new distance or seeing how far they can travel within the time available.
