The Barnsley Boundary Relay Race is a 72 mile multi terrain relay following the boundary of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. Based on the Barnsley Boundary Long Distance Path, the event is contested by teams of 10 runners, with each participant completing one leg of the route.
The course is divided into 10 stages ranging from approximately 4 miles to 11½ miles and combines roads, tracks and public footpaths. Covering around 72 miles with 7,350ft of ascent, the route showcases a wide variety of terrain around the edge of Barnsley while presenting both physical and navigational challenges on selected legs.
Organised by Penistone Footpath Runners in partnership with Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, the event offers a distinctive team challenge that combines trail running, relay racing and long distance route exploration across South Yorkshire.
