The Tentsmuir Forest 8 Hour Challenge gives runners eight hours to complete as many laps as they choose on a trail course through Tentsmuir Forest. Each lap covers 4.366 miles, with runners returning to basecamp at the end of every circuit before heading out again.
The route stays entirely on forest trails and has only around 20 feet of ascent per lap, creating a largely flat course where runners can steadily build their distance. Three laps take runners to approximately half marathon distance, six complete a marathon and seven or more move into ultra territory, leaving plenty of scope to set an individual target.
Basecamp sits at the heart of the challenge, giving runners somewhere to keep their kit, nutrition and supplies between laps while spectators can support from the same area. The flexible format suits a range of ambitions, from completing a chosen number of forest loops to seeing just how far eight hours can take you.
